Spokane enjoys weather with four true seasons. From water-skiing and boating at the areas many lakes in the warm summer months to skiing and winter sports when the snow falls, the changing seasons offer a myriad of options.
Founded in 1858, Spokane is an historic, culturally-rich city home to historic architecture and modern conveniences. Downtown's Riverfront Park, host of the world's fair in 1974, is steps away from world-class shopping at Riverpark Square including Nordstrom, Macy's, and a 20-screen theatre. Riverpark Square also offers Mobius Kids, a brand-new children's museum, which opened in 2005. Nearby in the historic Browne's Addition neighborhood is the Northwest Museum of Arts and Culture (which we locals call "the MAC").
This Jewel of a City enjoys many accolades, including being named an All-America City in 2004. Spokane will host the national figure-skating championships in 2007, and has hosted world-class cultural events such as Disney's traveling Broadway show, the Lion King.Spokane's downtown is also home to the Spokane Hot Zone, providing free outdoor wireless internet connectivity over a 100-block area, and was named one of the Top Seven Intelligent Communities in 2003.
